The membership structure of the American Society of Freudian Psychoanalysis has been designed to reflect differences in institutional standing without falling into the language of commercial tiers. Each category corresponds to a distinct form of association with the Society and should be understood within a formal and intellectual framework. These plans are not marketed as consumer packages. They are presented as pathways of affiliation appropriate to different stages of study, professional maturity, and institutional responsibility.
The Society offers Student Member, Associate Member, Fellow, and Institutional Affiliate categories. For Student, Associate, and Fellow memberships, both monthly and annual formats are available. The annual option is visually preferred because it better serves the continuity of institutional administration and development. For Institutional Affiliates, annual membership is the default and recommended standard.
Annual Membership as the Institutional Standard
Annual affiliation allows the Society to plan communications, maintain member records, administer certificates, and support editorial and institutional development with greater stability. Monthly membership remains available in selected categories so that entry into the Society may remain accessible, but the annual format better reflects the long-term relationship that membership is meant to represent. The institutional emphasis is therefore on continuity rather than promotional urgency.
Those choosing a plan will find a concise description of its intended audience, the corresponding billing cycle, and the institutional tone of that category. The Society recommends selecting the category that best reflects one’s actual relation to psychoanalytic study, professional work, or institutional life. Membership categories may evolve over time as the Society matures, but the current structure already provides a formal and coherent framework for affiliation.
Institutional Reassurance
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. After checkout, the member is returned to the Society website to complete a formal profile record, including name, country, professional title, and institutional affiliation where relevant. These records remain part of the Society’s internal administrative structure. Public listing remains optional and subject to the member’s selection and the Society’s administrative controls.
The purpose of the pricing structure is not to create pressure, urgency, or artificial scarcity. It is to sustain a serious institution in a responsible way. Membership revenue supports continuity, communication, administration, and the gradual development of the Society’s publications and institutional culture. Members are therefore encouraged to choose the format that corresponds to a stable relation with the institution, not simply the shortest possible transaction.

Membership questions
Who may become a Student or Associate Member?
Student membership is the entry pathway for people in formation or serious early study. Associate membership is intended for clinicians, scholars, educators, writers, researchers, and other professionals seeking formal affiliation.
Does Fellow status follow automatically from payment?
No. Fellow is a distinguished institutional standing and remains subject to the Society’s assessment and accurate representation rules.
Will my profile be public?
Not by default. Public profiles and directory inclusion require a separate choice and administrative publication. You may request removal without ending your private membership record.
How do renewal and cancellation work?
Recurring plans renew for the selected cycle until cancelled. Contact membership@americansociety.world before the next renewal. See the cancellations and refunds policy for billing-error and consumer-rights information.
What does the certificate represent?
It verifies the membership category and status recorded by the Society. It is not a clinical license, academic degree, or blanket endorsement.
